Nice to meet you.
I work mainly with silk screen printmaking, a medium I find deeply therapeutic. It takes an intensive process, attention to detail, and experimentation. I have to do math, measure, make constant micro-adjustments, stay tidy, and stand for hours. That may sound unartistic and even unpleasant, but for me it leads to a focussed flow-state that brings peace to a stormy mind.
Much of my work explores themes of death, existentialism, stoic philosophy, and metaphysics. The end result of that mix can feel a little psychedelic, slightly creepy, or evocative of an old ‘oddities and curiosities’ shop. Sometimes, though, I just make things I find funny and weird.
My most recent pieces use collage as a way to explore concepts and designs. Photography and vintage textbook scans, combined with my own drawing, allow me to build designs and tell a story. I like to play with typographic elements and geometric shapes as well. Stylistically, I’m still finding my voice. Individual pieces may get finished, but I don’t think art ever is.
Originally a painter, I studied Fine Art at the University of Guelph, then graphic design at Humber College. I currently work in Toronto, Canada as a graphic designer in addition to my artistic practice.
