Memento Mori
2024
“Remember that you must die.”
As a student of Stoic philosophy, this is a phrase that comes up a lot. It may seem morbid, but I find great comfort in the concept. Marcus Aurelius wrote in Mediations: “You could leave life right now; let that determine what you say and do and think.” Death is the great leveller, and reminding myself of its inevitability helps me to sort what matters from the trivial garbage. What a beautiful life it can be when you just let that shit go.
This is an 8-colour screen print. The circular astronomical graph is printed in a shimmering gold. The design is a collage created from my own drawing and scans of vintage anatomical and botanical illustrations.
